The pandemic has been a big challenge both in earning and learning. The sudden requirement to shift to an online modality called for the need to have resources such as gadgets and internet connections which cost a fortune. Along with it comes the transition to an online environment, which can sometimes make us feel isolated and constantly stepping outside of the bounds between home and school responsibilities.
More than affecting us financially and academically, the pandemic undoubtedly also affected our overall well-being.
Just when I was feeling overwhelmed by all of my challenges and self-doubts, United Neon Foundation Inc. stepped in and helped me in more ways than I could have imagined. UNFI helped me build my character and my relationship with God in addition to financing my studies and needs during my final year of college.
Before I became a scholar, my love for God had dimmed during that time and I was on the verge of losing my purpose as an educator. UNFI led me back to my chosen path by clarifying who I am in Christ.
I am grateful to the UNFI community for inspiring me to pursue excellence in my studies. Being with my co-scholars and recognizing our struggles, triumphs, strengths, weaknesses, and prayers made me realize that we are all fighting different battles and trying—it made me feel less alone. First, because of UNFI's encouraging community, and second, and most importantly, because I know God is with me.
To all of the scholars and future scholars of UNFI, I hope to inspire you to go back to your deepest “why’s,” your purpose, and who you are in Christ. And if you are struggling, I go back to what my mentor said years ago: no effort is ever wasted because someday, you will live at the fruit of this moment.
